About

Honour. Discover. Remember.

The Shrine of Remembrance is Victoria’s national war memorial — a place to reflect, explore and learn. Originally built to honour First World War veterans, it now commemorates all Australians who have served in war and peacekeeping.

Step inside and journey through the Galleries of Remembrance, home to more than 800 artefacts, including an original Gallipoli landing boat and personal stories of bravery and sacrifice. Witness the moving Ray of Light demonstration, held every half hour in the Sanctuary, and don’t miss the panoramic views of Melbourne from the Balcony.

Families can pick up free Shrine Kids activity cards or an Explorer Kit — packed with fun tools like a periscope, compass, magnifying glass and kaleidoscope — to make the visit hands-on and engaging.

Stay for the Last Post Service every Sunday at 4.45 pm, featuring live buglers, bagpipers and the Shrine Guard in historic uniform.

Pack a picnic and enjoy the surrounding memorial gardens for a peaceful break between discoveries.
