Step into the heart of the Perth Hills for a wildlife encounter like no other — one that’s perfect for curious kids, adventurous teens, and parents keen to reconnect. The Kaarakin Wildlife Walk blends close-up animal encounters with an easy bushland hike, creating the ideal “mini + me” date or outdoor family day out with a purpose.
Begin your adventure with a private behind-the-scenes tour of the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Conservation Centre, a not-for-profit sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating WA’s endangered black cockatoos. Along the way, you’ll:
🖤 Meet incredible wildlife — from charismatic black cockatoos (who might perch on your shoulder for a gumnut snack!) to free-roaming kangaroos, emus, guinea fowl and even dingoes.
🌱 Discover the power of conservation — learn how rescued birds are rehabilitated and released, and why protecting native species matters more than ever.
🦜 Step into the aviary — where unforgettable up-close encounters will leave lasting memories (and plenty of photo ops).
Then, lace up your walking shoes for a guided 3km bushwalk through the beautiful surrounding landscape. With eyes to the treetops, listen for the calls of wild cockatoos and immerse yourselves in the sounds and smells of nature. Along the way, you’ll pause for a signature morning tea on a scenic granite outcrop complete with sweeping views of the Perth city skyline.
Best of all, $25 from every ticket goes directly to Kaarakin to support their life-saving conservation work — so every step you take is helping protect these incredible birds.
