Spotlight on TreeTop Challenge

TreeTop Challenge The Big Pineapple

TreeTop Challenge is an exciting nature and activity based experience that’s sure to generate a thrill!

Not only are these parks set in the most beautiful nature immersive locations – The Big Pineapple, Mt Tamborine and Currumbin, but they’ve created the perfect mix of all ages adventure, challenge and activity with the zipline, cannon flyer and adventure high ropes.

We love TreeTop Challenge as a way to bond as a family as you conquer fears and new feats together! Take a look for yourself here.

Abbie Kethro is the Adventure Park Manager of this multi-award winning attraction. We spoke with Abbie to get the low down in this week’s Spark Creator Spotlight.

TreeTop Challenge – children on the high ropes.

  1. How long has the TreeTop Challenge been operating, and how long have you been involved?

Our Sunshine Coast adventure park opened in 2019, we have six different courses which start off easy and work up to expert level. This park is for climbers aged 8+! We will soon be reopening our juniors park for climbers ages 4-7. It’s fun for the whole family! I have only been part of the team since 2021, I love helping our guests get the most out of their experience and seeing everyone having a great time up in the trees!

2. What do you enjoy most about working at the TreeTop Challenge?

We get such a range of guests through the park, a lot of the time it’s peoples first experience with high ropes and zip lining. It’s great to see everyone full of excitement and coming in with a sense of adventure! It’s awesome to see the growth in confidence while they’re out there and people coming back having really enjoyed their experience.

3. What do climbers love most about the TreeTop Challenge?

At the TreeTop Challenge you get to hang out in the trees, climb the ladders, balance across rope and wire obstacles, but when we ask people what their favourite part of the experience was 90% of the time it’s the ziplines! We have 12 massive ziplines spanning from 20m to 140m in length across our rainforest! They are super fun!

4. What do parents love most about the TreeTop Challenge?

TreeTop Challenge is an activity the whole family can enjoy and all our adventure parks are self-paced so you can complete each circuit at your own speed. We have a thorough harnessing and safety induction process and awesome “green shirt” supervisors around the park to help out. The first courses are easy and designed for everyone in the family to enjoy the rainforest and build confidence in the sky. From there we have opportunities to really push you outside of your comfort zone. It’s a physical activity that will get your heart pumping and it’s great to see families encouraging each other through and building that confidence as they go!

5. How high do you get off the ground? How big are your trees?

Our obstacle courses are suspended up off the ground across our stunning rainforest. Our beginner courses are around 5-7 metres from the ground, our highest course has platforms that get to 25m up! We have lots of different rainforest and health species. Our biggest trees are black butt and brush box variety. They can grow up to 60m high!

6. What’s your favourite course?

My favourite is our Blue course – it’s our highest course! With platforms up to 25m from the ground, it has some really fun obstacles on the “difficult” route, and it has our longest zipline in the park!

7. What’s the most difficult obstacle? Do I have to be Ninja Warrior fit to do the challenge?

Our black diamond course is our extreme level with Ninja Warrior style obstacles, people really challenge themselves here, or come back determined to smash it next time! It requires a lot of upper body strength and good coordination. All our courses are physical so require a general level of fitness, but you’ll start on our easier courses and work your way up. Not all of our courses require lots of muscles! You will only complete the levels you are ready for.

8. What’s your favourite thing to do on weekends?

Being in the tourism industry weekends are our busiest time at the TreeTop Challenge! We live in such a beautiful part of the world, outside of work I love exploring the coast and spending time outside at our beaches, cafes or in the hinterland.
