World Science Festival Brisbane transforms science from textbook abstraction into mind-blowing discussions, hands-on interactive experiences, and genuine curiosity-sparking events accessible for everyone—from lifelong science enthusiasts to kids just beginning to explore why things work the way they do. Over a decade, WSFB has made science exciting and fun for more than 2 million people across Queensland.
Founded in New York in 2008 by renowned physicist Professor Brian Greene and Emmy award-winning journalist Tracy Day, the festival's mission is igniting public curiosity about science and its role in shaping our future. Since launching in Brisbane in 2016, WSFB has brought some of the world's greatest scientific minds to Queensland, deepening public connection to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and genuinely changing how people—especially families with curious kids—engage with science beyond school.
-Teresa the Tasmanian Tiger – AMPLIFY ME! Outdoor Gallery Pop-up
-Webuild: Safeguarding the Past. Building the Future.
-Digital Detox: Fantastic Flying Foxes
-Robots and Rocketry
Whether you're witnessing cutting-edge research discussions, participating in interactive experiments, meeting scientists passionate about their work, or exploring exhibits that make complex concepts tangible, WSFB invites everyone to join this celebration of discovery and curiosity at whatever level interests you.
Perfect for families with curious kids who ask "why" and "how" constantly—WSFB gives them access to actual scientists and interactive experiences that answer those questions in exciting ways. Good for children interested in STEM who want to see science as more than classroom subjects, teens considering science careers who can meet researchers doing cutting-edge work, or parents wanting to spark genuine curiosity and show kids that science is accessible, not intimidating. The mix of deep discussions and hands-on interactivity means different family members engage at their own level—little ones love experiments, older kids appreciate meeting scientists, adults geek out over research discussions.
