Be taken on a journey to a land where time stood still. Where white fingers of sand stretched into the mangroves and the Dreamtime giant, Jabreen, stood guard over Burleigh.
On this culturally rich tour, children will learn about the methods of Aboriginal painting and the symbols and their meanings and create their own masterpiece to take home.
Following this workshop the group will be guided through the gates of Burleigh Head National Park along the shores of Currumbin Creek, where several sites of significance and environmental features have played an important part in the lives of the Yagambeh speaking people for thousands of years.
Your ticket is all inclusive of the Aboriginal art workshop and activity book for children to fill in on their walk. Both their creation and their activity book can be taken home at the end of the tour.
Children can explore the magic of the “Dreaming Mountain”, Jellurgal (Burleigh Headland), with an art workshop and engaging guided walk.
Aimed at primary school aged children from 5 – 12 years of age, the experience begins with an Aboriginal art workshop. Children will learn about the methods of Aboriginal painting and the symbols and their meanings and create their own masterpiece to take home.
Following the art workshop, the group are taken on a short guided walk from Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre through the gates of Burleigh Head National Park and along the shores Tallebudgera Creek, where numerous significant sites and environmental features have played an important part in the lives of the Yugambeh speaking people for thousands of years. They will learn about the Aboriginal history and culture of the Gold Coast and hear fascinating Dreaming stories associated with Jellurgal (Burleigh Headland).
The Oceanview track is a ‘Grade 2’ walk, meaning that the track is a hardened surface with gentle hill sections and occasional steps. No bushwalking experience is required and wheelchair assisted and pram assisted access is possible.
Total walking distance will be just less than 1km for the round trip to the creek and back to the centre.
