Spotlight on White Ridge Farm
White Ridge Farm is a heartwarming and super affordable experience you can explore within a leisurely 30-minute drive from the northside of Brisbane.
With Autumn now here, its a great time to visit White Ridge Farm to meet the llamas, alpacas, horses and other beautiful animals, and so we’ve gone behind the scenes to find out some of the more unique aspects such as being inclusive and accessible which make this SPARK* creator so special.
Katrina White is the owner of this farm and also mum of two now adult children, we spoke with Katrina about all the furry fun to be had on the farm!
1. How long has White Ridge Farm been in operation, and how long have you been involved?
We have been operating for 8 years at this location and before that we had 2 mobile farms, which we took around to different events, festivals, shopping centres and lots of fun places.
2. What do you enjoy most about managing White Ridge Farm?
Being able to make so many people happy! We love bringing joy to people, watching children and adults having fun and relaxing. Animals bring joy to everyone, regardless of age.
3. What do kids love most about White Ridge Farm?
That is a hard question because there is so much to do at White Ridge Farm. The kids love feeding the animals, the tractor ride is always popular, the kids love riding on the train. Some love playing on the playgrounds and the little tykes cars. And for the bigger kids enjoy playing putt putt golf.
4. What do parents love most?
That it is affordably priced for families and that all the attractions are included in the entry price. And the shady tables and chairs right beside the playground give parents a chance to sit down and relax and watch their little ones play.
5. What sustainability initiatives do you have in place or have coming soon?
We have been working with Woolworths for over 10 years now to help alleviate landfill by putting their waste fruit and vegetables to good use. Everyday Farmer David travels around to 3 different Woolworths stores and collects the fruit and vegetables they don’t sell. It is then brought back to the farm and used to feed all our beautiful animals. This is reducing landfill for the supermarkets and helping to give our animals a healthy diet.
6. Can you tell us about a particularly memorable experience you have had working with a customer?
We love how our farm is inclusive and accessible for everyone. We have had quite a lot of team training to be able to accommodate all our guests and their special needs. Also, we have an app called Cerge, that is making it easy for guests with special needs to be able to contact us prior to their arrival. This app is terrific as it allows the guest to let us know of their needs before they get to the farm.
7. What’s your favourite treat?
We love Easter time, as our Team get to have some public holidays off, so they can spend time with their families and of course lots of chocolate eggs!
8. What’s your go to kids’ gift?
Gift vouchers to the farm of course are our go to gift. They are valid for 3 years and for a small price give a lot of good, wholesome fun for families. I think families really value together time and gift vouchers for experiences are fantastic.
9. What is a cool/fun fact about White Ridge Farm?
White Ridge Farm has had lots of fun working with Totally Wild, over the years and have filmed many an episode at the farm. Also, we have just recently been in the filming of an Australia movie (the name of that one is top secret!) and have been involved in many different forms of advertising and commercials.
