Greener World for the Next Generation

On Sunday 20 November, we celebrated World Children’s Day, but sadly the world we live in is far from ideal with pollution and global warming at record highs.

A key offender is the plastic toy market and according to a United Nations Environment Program report ‘the toy industry is the most plastic intensive industry in the world’ with 80% of toys ending-up in landfill and 90% of these being made of plastic.

World Children’s Day aims to promote the improvement of children’s welfare and SPARK POP is taking the $1.5 billion toy market head-on by inspiring more Australians to choose adventures for their children over more plastic stuff.

SPARK POP launched its online marketplace last month and is rapidly expanding after recently being awarded a Social Enterprise Development Grant proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government.

SPARK POP is reimagining the experiences and gifting for kids market while supporting LOCAL jobs, ACTIVE kids and HEALTHY PLANET – Helping last minute gifters and busy parents un-trash playrooms with a one shop. SPARK POP is Australia’s only experience marketplace for kids and families to parents, aunties, uncles, grandparents and carers living in south-east Queensland (sparkpop.com.au @SparkPopTribe).

Our founder, Melissa Soutar, says that with the Christmas countdown now on the time is now to make a conscious choice where you spend your money.

“Australian toy sales data showing that 40% or $600 million in sales are made between October and December, plus, for every $25 toy revenue, 1kg of plastic is produced, now is the time to spread the word and encourage more Brisbane parents, aunties, uncles, grandparents, carers to choose experiences over plastic”, Melissa said.

“SPARK POP has launched in South East Queensland last month and will be rapidly expanding into Sydney and Melbourne in the coming months and we’ve got plans to eventually go global. This is more than just a business, it’s a movement to change how we consume for all future generations”.

SPARK POP has set a target of selling 400 experiences/gift cards this summer season which will result in 200 toys being kept out of landfill and oceans.
