All aboard for a scenic steam train ride along one of Adelaide’s most popular beachside routes! Departing from the foot of the Semaphore Jetty, this heritage railway follows the esplanade, weaving through sand dunes and past historic Fort Glanville. It’s the perfect mix of nostalgia, history, and coastal views—a fun experience for train lovers of all ages.

Steam trains run hourly between 11 am and 4 pm, with schedules adjusting to demand. After your ride, explore the National Railway Museum in Port Adelaide, where you’ll find an impressive collection of locomotives, railway carriages, and interactive exhibits—plus another train ride within the museum grounds! With its mix of beachside fun, history, and adventure, this is an ideal outing for families looking for a memorable and budget-friendly day out.

Opening Hours: The train is operational every Sunday and Public Holiday from October to April (inclusive).Daily during school holidays in October and April, except Tuesdays and Thursdays. Daily from 26th December to the end of January school holidays.
Family Facilities: A change table is available in the women’s toilets and in the accessible toilet. The Museum does not currently have a dedicated breastfeeding area, however breastfeeding is welcome at the Museum. There are seating areas located around the Museum site.
Car Parking: There is free parking adjacent to the Museum and in nearby streets, however please be aware that this parking is shared with the other residents and businesses around the Port. The car park has a three hour limit
