The traditional snorkel experience in the beautiful Tropical Lagoon includes swimming amongst the Zebra Sharks in the natural ocean habitat. These fascinating creatures are primarily nocturnal which means they’ll be less active during the day, allowing for ease of interaction with the opportunity to feed and pet them.
An incredible place to try snorkeling for the 1st time under the watchful eye of our experienced guides. Immerse yourself in the underwater realm of endangered species, as you swim off the reef on the Zebra Shark side of our heated, indoor Tropical Lagoon with the zebra sharks, shovel nose rays, leopard rays, epaulette sharks, bamboo sharks & many tropical fish.
The famous Shallows Encounter is included with this encounter.

Ticket Includes:
-Admission to the aquarium, entry into the lagoon shallows, shark food, interaction with the animals (petting/feeding), interesting and informative animal talks and staff on hand for personalised attention.
-Wear & Keep Souvenir Socks
-Wetsuit Hire, private access into the shallows of Fingill Lagoon (not swimming) for the Ray Cuddle Experience.
-Interaction with the animals (patting/feeding), personal attention from the staff & interesting information on the animals.
-No need to be able to swim, so swimming is involved. For swimming options please see the snorkels.
-The Entry Pass is available every 20 minutes from 9am till 3.40pm, please check availability, school holidays book out early!

Irukandji Kiosk: Light snacks are available, however you are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch to enjoy under the trees.

- Opening Hours: Open 9am-5pm every day of the year except Christmas Day
- Accessibility: Friendly for wheelchair and pram users. Accessible bathrooms also available near the entrance.
- Family Facilities: Baby change table available in the accessible toilets. Kids playground available on-site.
- Car Parking: Plenty of free carparking available, located on Jessie Road, right near the Port Stephens Drive roundabout on Nelson Bay Road.
- What to Bring: Hats, REEF-FRIENDLY sunscreen, cameras (underwater cameras are great!), clothes (t-shirts & shorts or skirts that can stay dry in the shallows, Only bring swimwear or spare underwear for those choosing the wetsuit option and for all encounters and snorkels. Your own prescription mask set- note though we do allow it you will need to allow extra time before your experience for us to clean/soak your snorkel in solution to ensure it is free from any nasties.
- What NOT to bring: Swimwear or rashie/clothes to swim in without a wetsuit (staying dry clothing or wetsuit must be worn in lagoons, not swimwear alone), non-reef friendly sunscreen, your own wetsuits or water shoes- because they could introduce toxins to our lagoons and we limit the items going in, especially neoprene which can harbour marine life from the ocean and cannot be cleaned in a hurry
Guidelines, Cancellation, Terms
SPECIFICS
- Children between 6-11 yrs, will need a supervising adult with them at all times who also has a Zebra Shark Snorkel ticket
- Children aged 12+ may participate in the snorkel with parents watching from the outside.
- Participants must be able to swim/ float calmly with minimal kicking (pool noodles can be provided for less confident swimmers).
- First time snorkelers welcome.
- The snorkel experience is at a set time with two daily sessions
- Booking time is arrival time, to allow guests to check in and get into wetsuits in time.
- Allow 30 minutes for the snorkelling part of the visit
- Shallows/ lagoon exploration time is up to you, approx. 2 hours average
